Project Overview

Illinois is one of several states with a mandated kindergarten readiness assessment administered in the first 40 days of kindergarten. This project explores this assessment tool in several ways. First, we examine trends in readiness by student groups, including a deep dive on assessment of English Learners. Second, we investigate how kindergarten readiness predicts future school outcomes. Third, we examine how PreK experiences relate to kindergarten readiness. Finally, we examine districts that appear to promote successful outcomes in later schooling given disparate levels of kindergarten readiness across students.
