Michael brings a background in research and research administration to his role at DPI. As Associate Director of Research and Development Programs, he works with the Science Teams to support them in acquiring new funding, finding academic and industrial partners, and generally supporting their research goals.

Before joining the DPI team, Michael was an Associate Director for Research Development in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Illinois Chicago. In that role, he worked to support research and scholarship across all campus colleges including work on proposal development, distribution of funding opportunities, initiating research collaborations, and other strategic research initiatives. He focused particularly on data science related programs.
Prior to that role, Michael was the Director of User Services and Outreach at the University of Chicago, Center for Translational Data Sciences where he managed genomic and clinical data submission to the center’s biomedical data commons as well as user communication. Before that he worked in the Bay Area in the Biotech Industry supporting bioinformatics analysis and next generation sequencing.

Michael completed his BS degree in Genetics and Plant Pathology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a PhD in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Chicago, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the Genome Sciences Group.
