For seven years, Lieway enjoyed working as a Grants and Contracts Associate in the College of Education at the University of Illinois Chicago and facilitated investigators to prepare and submit grant proposals to sponsors. As a result, the investigators won over $92M in new funding, started over 160 new sponsored projects, and the indirect cost recovered from those awards helped the College’s programs remain afloat after COVID19 forced a 15% budget cut.
But Lieway gave up all that and came to the Discovery Partners Institute to learn new experiences, grow in his career, and to become a better Grants Development professional.
Therefore, at the DPI, Lieway facilitates investigators to prepare competitive grant applications for corporate, federal, foundation, and state sponsors; advises investigators on the grant processes; and develops tools to facilitate investigators in preparing and submitting grant proposals to sponsors. Lieway hopes these efforts will help improve the grant processes and increase the sponsored research funding at DPI.
