Cardiff University and the University of Illinois System have launched two programs aimed at facilitating bilateral academic connections between the two institutions, as outlined below. We invite you to submit proposals with Cardiff University researchers for the second round of funding. The proposal submission system for both programs is now active, with a submission deadline of November 18, 2024.

Joint Research and Innovation Seed Grants Program

Cardiff University (CU) and the University of Illinois System (U of I System) have launched the Joint Research and Innovation Seed Grants Program for university research scientists. This program aims to facilitate both research and development cooperation and delivery of talent, innovations, and resources from these universities to the marketplace. The program will be interdisciplinary in nature. The goal of these awards is to promote economic development through research and development of innovative technologies, while facilitating cooperation between the two universities. CU and the U of I System have together committed to fund up to four selected proposals and offer up to USD $40,000 (GBP £31,500) total per selected proposal.

Travel Grants

CU and the U of I System have launched the Travel Grants Program for university research scientists. This program aims to foster bilateral academic connections and facilitates mobility to CU or U of I. CU and U of I have each committed to fund up to four selected proposals and offer up to USD $5,000 (GBP £4,000) total per selected proposal.
