In 2020, DPI created and launched the Digital Scholars program, which is an intensive six-week long summer program for high school junior and seniors and incoming college freshman to take college level courses in computer science, data science, electrical and computer engineering, and mobile app development. Students build college and career readiness skills and get immersed into Chicago tech with daily speakers and weekly workshops. The program is run in partnership with UIC CHANCE, UIUC LAS, and UIUC Grainger College of Engineering. A majority of students receive a stipend for their participation through our partnership with One Summer Chicago and in 2023 students earned microcredential badges. Lead funders include Apple and Amazon. In 2024 we will have ~130 total students in the program
