Michael comes to DPI with a dozen years of experience in securing philanthropic support for high-impact research and educational initiatives. As director of development, he serves as the Discovery Partners Institute’s primary major gifts fundraiser, working collaboratively with DPI leadership and colleagues across the University of Illinois System to secure private contributions.
Prior to joining the University of Illinois Foundation in his current role, Michael worked in multiple fundraising positions at Northwestern University, including foundation relations, prospect research, and most recently with Northwestern’s interdisciplinary institutes as the Director of Development for University Research. He also serves on the planning committee for the Strategic Initiatives Conference, a professional association that convenes fundraisers and academic leaders working to support cross-cutting, priority initiatives at top educational and research institutions across the globe.
He is a two-time University of Illinois graduate, with a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in history from the University of Illinois Springfield. Michael also holds a professional certificate in philanthropy and nonprofit organizations from Northwestern University.
