As Illinois’ designated land grant institution, the University of Illinois has a responsibility to use its resources to positively impact and improve society through dynamic higher education and dedicated and disruptive research. The Discovery Partners Institute (DPI) is a true extension of that mission.

The DPI is centered around four key focus areas: computing & data, environment & water, food & agriculture, and health & wellness. These areas serve as the backbone of the collaborative efforts within the DPI and give them a unique identity as national research and innovation leader.

Together, these public-private collaborative efforts will be guided by working groups and advisory committees that will drive economic growth throughout Illinois with a global impact.

To achieve these goals, DPI's working groups will engage in diverse partnerships to conduct breakthrough and translational research, education and outreach; engage faculty across the University of Illinois System and all of DPI's partner institutions; take advantage of major advances in computing and data throughout the DPI's partners; and study other interdisciplinary institutes that hold computing and data research and education as primary thrusts.
